About

Dr. Joniesha Hickson (she/her)

Dr. Joniesha ‘Jojo’ Hickson is a clinical psychologist, healing justice practitioner, and founder of Dear Black Prophets, Co. Her work bridges African-centered psychology, ancestral spirituality, and trauma-informed care to create sacred spaces for Black healing and collective transformation.

A proud graduate of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Dr. Hickson developed The Ujima Model — a groundbreaking framework exploring Black activist identity development through the lens of racial trauma, spirituality, and resistance. Her research and community work center on the psychospiritual liberation of Black folx navigating the weight of systemic oppression and intergenerational trauma.

Through Sawubona Healing Circles, education, and ritual, she invites us to reimagine mental wellness as sacred, communal, and inherently political.
